WWII Concert

Last night was our World War 2 night at Funworld. The staff of Funworld generously donated the premises for the night to help towards our forthcoming charity trip to Rwanda. Our evening consisted of a concert of songs and drama from the 1940s and then a chance to take advantage of the soft play and Laser Quest facilities, as well as the cafe for parents.

It was a super night and raised over £500 for our Rwanda fund. Many thanks to all at Funworld and all parents for their support of the venture.

Kyle in S5 opened the evening by explaining a little about the upcoming Rwanda trip and thanking everyone for their support in helping us to make a difference:

Then the concert began:

A big thank you also to all the pupils who helped to make this such a success.

We are holding our first fund raising event for our upcoming Rwanda trip tomorrow. It is a Nearly New Sale, coffee shop and bake sale and is open from 10 am - 2 pm in the school. Everyone is welcome, entry is £1.

Staff and pupils worked very hard this afternoon to set everything up for the sale - they did a great job and it all looks fantastic!

Middle school did a great job sorting everything out:

Then it was time to set out the stalls:

The finished result:

Test your skills....

There will a number of opportunities to test your estimation skills at our Nearly New sale tomorrow:

Estimate the number of grains of rice in a jar to win a massage, facial and nail treatment at One Union Hairspa.

Estimate the number of sweets in the tub to win them the whole tub!

Estimate the weight of the cake to win it.

Estimate the weight of the suitcases to win a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses.

P4/5 were helping me to work out how many sweets were in the tub altogether:

Don't worry, none of them know the final total....

Baking for the Sale!

Pupils from P4 - S6 were exercising their culinary skills today - they were decorating biscuits and making top hats to sell at our Nearly New sale tomorrow. The sale is the raise funds for our Rwanda expedition and is from 10 am - 2 pm in the school. All are welcome to attend.

Here are some pictures of the happy bakers!

Apple Distinguished School!

Today we were visited by Andy Nagle, Gillian Penny and Mike Munn from Apple.
They came to school to bestow on us an honour that is shared by only 4 schools in the whole of Europe.

We have been awarded the 'Apple Distinguished School' award in recognition of our outstanding use of Apple technology in teaching and learning in Cedars.

It was a great occasion, shared by Miss Jennifer Jack and Mrs Grace Gault, Chris Jewell and Mrs Elaine McKenzie-Smith of our school board and our children and staff. Mr Speirs spoke to close the occasion and thank our guests for the award.

The visitors stayed for some time in the afternoon to tour the school and talk to both staff and students.

We are so proud of all our children and teachers and glad that our hard work has been recognised by this prestigious award.
